I think I could spend days tapping away at my laptop if I were writing a blog post about my entire weekend in Amsterdam, but luckily for you I'm keeping it short and sweet. I'll just report back on the wonderful late lunch I enjoyed at Buffet van Odette, Prinsengracht 598 - a stylish yet simple canal-side cafe situated just a short walk from the museumplein to work up an appetite!
After a full morning of sightseeing and strolling, weary and hungry, we stumbled upon Buffet van Odette. The cafe had a certain buzzy atmosphere - by the time we arrived the beautiful outside terrace were full and inside tables were already beginning to fill up.
Rather than a buffet, the cafe offered an interesting selection of brunch/lunch sandwiches, salads, pastas and light sharing dishes. We opted for the aubergine and truffle ravioli - garnished with shavings of light and melting parmesan cheese and peppered with rocket. We also ordered the steak sandwich - a generous portion of beautiful steak served open on top of a vibrant bed of tomatoes, rocket, pine nuts etc. Both were just perfect, and the selection of salads served on the counter looked equally delicious.
Rather full and rather satisfied we continued our stroll along the iconic Amsterdam canals.
And had a quick tour of the Rijksmuseum.
Followed by a power nap in the park, so we were ready to hit the city at night.
